Have you watched or ridden your friends’ horse and thought to yourself, “I wish my horse was like that.” ?
As a child did you ever hear or were you asked by your family, “Why can’t you be more like your friend ‘Dave’ or ‘Steph’?” – See the relation?
Chances are your horse just isn’t understanding your. You could be asking the wrong question, in the correct language, it could be the wrong time to ask, but the right question or it could just be a picture of everything and the miscommunication is just too much for you horse’s brain to cope with. Which ends up in bucking, rearing or just plonking their feet in frustration.
Here at Weltmeyer, we can help you.
We have a natural horsemanship trainer who is experienced and trained in dealing with the difficult and trying horses. She has a magical gift with these creatures. She not only works with them but she teaches you how to understand from your horses’ pointed of view.
Meet Simone Martins
Simone has been in the equestrian world for over 15 years. She was originally trained western where her passion for natural horsemanship was first instilled and it has grown and blossomed ever since. Sim then became part of our riding school here at Weltmeyer where she achieved her Gauteng colours and grew into a big part of our family. She then moved to Cape Town for a new adventure where she worked with unruly and ‘dangers’ horses and her results were incredible. She has been mentored over the years by different great horseman, through their guidelines she has turned horses who began as “hopeless” and “unruly” into magnificent and gentle animals.
When Sim first met her mare, Nikita, she was described as “the spawn of Satan” and after some time, love and attention she is now the biggest love bug at the yard.
She works with a few of the horses at the yard. She works solely at the horse’s pace and works on the principle that the horse is never wrong, we’re just asking the wrong questions. Her main aim is to bridge the language barrier between horse and owner.
Sim helps all her horses, no matter how insignificant the issue may present itself as. Whether it be horses with sever anxiety disorders or teaching horses and their owners how to play with one another. she does all types of desensitisation and ground work.
Sim believes in getting the horse to want to work with you is the key. If you start a ride and you can feel your horse’s heart isn’t in it? They’re having one of those days? Chances are your ride is going to be full of fights between horse and rider and often you get off feeling worse than before your ride. However, if you’re connected to your horse and they’re wanting to work with you, chances are it will be a magnificent ride. Who wouldn’t want more lessons like that?
